- A man charged with murder in the death of a Muslim Virginia teen who was attacked near her mosque became “enraged” by a "traffic argument" with one of the girl’s friends and hit her with a baseball bat before abducting her.
- Trump’s personal lawyers and newly hired proxies have shown themselves more than ready to defend him in the manner to which he is accustomed — with arguments seemingly aimed at public opinion as much as at warding off any actual legal threat from prosecutors.
- The White House press corps vented frustration Monday with press secretary Sean Spicer. Sean conducted an off-camera briefing with reporters on Monday in which the press was told it could not film or broadcast audio of the proceedings.
- Otto Warmbier, who was arrested in North Korea while visiting as a tourist, and sent back in a coma after being held there for 17 months, had been described by doctors caring for him last week as having extensive brain damage that left him in a state of "unresponsive wakefulness", has died.
- The U.S. Supreme Court has been willing to invalidate state electoral maps on the grounds of racial discrimination, as it did on May 22 when it found that Republican legislators in North Carolina had drawn two electoral districts to diminish the statewide political clout of black voters.
- U.S. Democrats took to the Senate floor on Monday to throw a spotlight on behind-the-scenes efforts by the Republican majority to repeal former President Barack Obama's healthcare law, known as Obamacare.
- A van plowed into worshippers near a London mosque in the early hours of Monday, injuring 11 people, two of them seriously, in what Prime Minister Theresa May said was a sickening, terrorist attack on Muslims.
- Andrew Weissmann, who headed the U.S. Justice Department's criminal fraud section before joining Mueller's team last month has been recruited onto special counsel Robert Mueller's team. He is known for a skill that may come in handy in the investigation of potential ties between Russia and U.S. President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign team: persuading witnesses to turn on friends, colleagues and superiors.
