- A man armed with a hammer shouted "this is for Syria" and wounded a policeman before being shot and wounded by other officers on Tuesday outside Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France.
- Trump's @realDonaldTrump account recently blocked a number of accounts that replied to his tweets with commentary that criticized, mocked or disagreed with his actions. The Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University (a free speech institute) said in its letter that President Trump blocking suppressed speech in a public forum protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution was an obstruction of justice since it likened Twitter to a modern form of town hall meeting or public comment periods for government agency proposals.
- Trump wrote on Twitter that his recent trip to the Middle East was "already paying off" and cast an anti-Islamist speech he made in Saudi Arabia as the inspiration for a decision by Arab powers to sever ties with US ally Qatar in protest at what they say is the Gulf nation's support for terrorism. Trump later spoke by phone with Saudi King Salman and stressed the need for Gulf unity.
- Qatar has built a housing complex for thousands of families, paved major roads across Gaza, built a hospital and funded the reconstruction of hundreds of houses that were destroyed or damaged during a 50-day war with Israel in 2014. Aid groups and residents of the Gaza Strip have expressed concern over Qatar's rift with several Arab countries, which could affect aid to the impoverished region.
- Former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn turned over about 600 pages of documents Tuesday to the Senate intelligence committee as part of its investigation into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
- China’s government on Tuesday rejected a U.S. State Department call to release three activists detained while investigating a factory that produced shoes for Ivanka Trump and other brands. The activists were working undercover in a Chinese factory to check into worker abuses.
- Fighters from the ISIS group have killed more than 160 people in one day last week to prevent them from fleeing western Mosul, Iraq according to the UN. The agency on Tuesday accused ISIL of carrying out the attack in the group's last stronghold, where a coalition of troops is working to flush out the fighters.
- The UN body has taken a strong position against Israel's occupation of territory seized in the 1967 Middle East war, its treatment of Palestinians, and its building of Jewish settlements. The Trump administration gave formal notice on Tuesday that it is reviewing its participation in the UN Human Rights Council and called for reforming the body to eliminate what it called its "chronic anti-Israel bias.
