- James Comey’s testimony could strengthen any impeachment case built on obstruction of justice. The former FBI Director had said on Wednesday that U.S. President Donald Trump asked him to drop an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn as part of a probe into Russia's alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
- Islamic State claimed responsibility for suicide bombers and gunmen which attacked the Iranian parliament and Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum in Tehran on Wednesday, killing at least 13 people in an unprecedented assault that Iran's Revolutionary Guards.
- North Korea fired what appeared to be several land-to-ship missiles off its east coast on Thursday which happened only a day after South Korea said it will hold off on installing remaining components of a controversial U.S. anti-missile defense system that has angered North Korea's main ally, China.
- U.S. President Donald Trump offered on Wednesday to help resolve a worsening diplomatic crisis between Qatar and other Arab powers over long-standing allegations that Doha is courting Iran.
- The United Arab Emirates (UAE) threatened to impose an economic embargo against Qatar while Bahrain said "any options" were on the table as the crisis in the Gulf showed no signs of abating on Thursday. Trump, after apparently showing support for the moves against Qatar in tweets sent on Tuesday, on Wednesday called Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani and later UAE's Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to calm the situation.
- Turkey's parliament has approved a legislation allowing its troops to be deployed to a Turkish military base in Qatar. Turkey is a key ally of Qatar and is setting up a military base in the country which also hosts the largest US air base in the Middle East.
- President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he planned to nominate a former Department of Justice official named Christopher A. Wray to take over as FBI director. Wray donated thousands of $$$’s to exclusively Republican candidates throughout his career, and he now works closely with Bobby Burchfield, Trump's ethics adviser.
- Kamala Harris (D-CA), was cut off by the committee’s chair, Richard Burr ( R-N.C). when she was grilling the leaders of the NSA, FBI, DOJ and the Director of National Intelligence about whether President Trump has intervened in ongoing investigations in Russian election interference and allegations of collusion with his campaign.
